the funny man stands
mic in hand
and stares at his watch.
he’s three minutes in
and can’t even begin
to remember his next joke.
his hands start to sweat
and he begins to regret
signing up for this open mic.
as his dream slowly dies
he begins to realize
a forgotten little piece of advice,
happiness is the key to life.
smiled, and with this rejuvenation
he regained his reputation
and killed it that night in the city basement.
